Do I need a Mobile App or a Mobile Website or both? Explain it to me

Right now mobile website usage is only 8.5% of all web traffic but it's doubling every year. One out of four phones has internet capability and that number is rising rapidly. Some predict mobile usage will outpace desktop usage by 2014. Whether that happens or not, the mobile space is one to take seriously.

Most traditional websites aren't easy to view on the smaller screens of these mobile devices. The typical website is designed for large desktop monitors and is about 960 pixels wide, while the typical mobile phone is either 320 to 480 pixels wide (roughly 1/3 of the average website width). Fitting this large page onto a small screen makes for an uncomfortable viewing experience. Mobile devices have the ability to zoom but the overall experience can be cumbersome.
