Google Trends is a new product from Google Labs that can be a very helpful tool for marketing departments and internet entrepreneurs alike. The tool allows you to enter any search term and it returns search statistics over time for that term. Much like technorati will return statistics for what individuals are blogging about, Google Trends allows you to harness the collective trends for Google’s millions of users.

Kryptonite Blog Myth?

Here is an interesting Interview with Donna Tocci, the Manager of Public Relations for Kryponite during the Bic lock picking incident. Dave Taylor doesn’t throw her any hard balls and they may have been aware that the info on their locks was online – but their response certainly was not strong enough – regardless of whether blogs broke the story.

They are out their talking. Talking about your company. Like it or not, the conversations they have are going to be online forever. This is why you have to actively participate in these conversations. In the age of Google and the page rank algorythym, if you aren’t participating in the conversation, your opinion will be ignored.

I want to thank Jack Barto and the great group of folks at the local Raleigh Score chapter. I had a great opportunity to present at one of their well organized SCORE events this past weekend. SCORE develops educational programs for people starting or currently running a small business. My hour presentation was an overview of online marketing tools, focused on some of the pitfalls to avoid as well as best practices.
